Dear Family,
All is well in Switzerland, and I think this next week will be even better. It’s the week leading up to the General Conference. I hope you are all preparing for it. I can promise that some of your questions will be answered, if you pray for them to be. Elder Chapman and I are going to try really hard this next week, and testing our faith in Heavenly Father, we want to see miracles this week.
Everyone is going to the chocolate factory again. I keep telling them I have been prepping for this my whole life.... next stop the ice cream factory ha ha (23 ice creams or so in the time of one cruise, beat that ha ha). Well, I don’t know that I will have the opportunity to take any more pictures, since I have already been there.
So, I have to tell you a story about Pancho Villa, he is what keeps Mexico alive here in Europe. We have one Mexican a sole rider here, and he is the only one that brings the spice of heaven to Switzerland, I love Pancho Villa ha ha. Dad you would go crazy here, cause they hate spicy food. Their hot is our mild-tomato sauce. We are getting Matta’s hot sauce shipped from the great state of Arizona, from my companions parents ... bless their souls. It almost brought a tear to my eye when I found out.
So, for the past week I have been DEATHLY ILL (in small print)--> with a cold ha ha. I have been dragging and they do not sell Dayquil. I bought the preferred cold treatment, which is a glorified mint. I can’t even believe it; it’s getting cold here quick, I don’t like it.
Well I hope that everyone has a fantastic week I look forward to hearing from you all next week
Love,
Elder Schmidt

09/22/08 Prepare yourself for General Conference
Family and Friends,
Hey everyone, I hope you enjoyed the pictures. I tried to take a ton but it’s hard.
Things have been going great here the past week, we have taught a lot of lessons. and I feel like we are getting a lot done. I know that I have things I still need to refine, and work on, to better myself, so that I can better the work.
It was really cool at church; we had Mohammed tell us he needed to talk with us. He told us, that he knew this church was the right church, and then he said, “what do I have to do”? We told him that his Heavenly Father loves him, and that he wants him to be safe. (We asked the mission president and he said we aren’t allowed to baptize anyone from Afghanistan because we could be putting them in danger (if you know what I mean). Mohammed said, I know that I would be choosing between home and the church, but I feel like it is right. It’s very humbling to see someone that wants it so bad, but can’t have it. I love this work, it has a lot of downs, but the ups are so great.
What else has been going on here? Um...Oh when we where porting we came across a door with the name Fankhouser ha ha. I asked the guy if there was any relation, soon to find out he only spoke German. I will take a picture of the name on the door, next time we go there. It was cool. Larry told me their where Fankhausers here, and I found one ha ha sweet.
I would like to encourage you all to prepare yourselves for General Conference, sometimes if we have a question it can be answered in General Conference. That is what I am giving a lesson about in family home evening tonight. I'm excited.
Oh, I forgot to tell you, I taught English class all by myself this week. This means I have to talk to them in French and explain the things that we are learning; so it’s about half French and half English, and they liked it. Wow, I know that I am being blessed with this language, it is coming petit à petit ha ha (little by little).
Well, I can’t think of much anything else to say, Elder Chapman and I are getting along great!
It’s been pretty chilly here I am NOT looking foreword to winter. It is really windy here and its like humid cold:(I am such a pansy in the winter) ha ha.
Well I love you all so much. If someone would send me tooth paste that would be great; the stuff here is not as strong, and that twinkle in my smile is diminishing ha-ha.
Well I love you all. I am going to send a little box of chocolate home so they can have a taste of Switzerland. I get to go to France on Wednesday for legality; that should be interesting. Well I love being able to write you. Please keep in touch.

09/15/08 Time flies when you are having fun!!
Hey Everyone,
How are things going back home? They are going excellent here. I am having a blast! We fixed two baptismal dates this week, one with a man named Franko, and the other one with a man named Simon. We where able to fix them in the same day, they agreed to it. I know that the lord will let them know that this is the one and only true church on the earth. We promised that that if we could meet with them for 3 weeks, 3 times for 30 min, that by the end of that time, if they did all the things that we ask them, they will know it is true. This is the new way of working, it was the way proposed by Elder Perry. We have been using it, and we have had so many more rendezvous with members and investigators; its amazing. I know this way of working was inspired. I am so very thankful for this work.
What else has been going on? Its getting pretty chilly here; it has been raining like crazy, but we don't mind walking around in it, cause we have got work to do.
I cant believe that next month is my Birthday; time flies when your having fun. ha ha. We have been working hard here, in Fribourg, and it is paying off. The French is coming along. People that I met when I first arrived here, are complimenting me on how I am learning. I can only explain it, as the gift of tounges.
I would encourage everyone to try to look for missionary opportunities, nothing makes you feel better than when you are in the service of someone else.
Well I better get going, I know this church is true. I am so thankful for the Atonement in my life. I am having a hard time thinking of words, cause when I think atonement I think l`expiation ha ha. It's cool. I am thankful for this opportunity I have to serve my Heavenly Father. There is no greater thing that I could be doing with my life, then this. I am learning more than I think the people we are teaching are learning. Well, I love you all; your all in my prayers.
I hope you all have the best week.

09/08/09 I'm here doing the lords work in the lords way....
Hey Schmidt Family
Hey, all is well here. I got my new companion! It was a weird day we went really early to the gare to drop Elder Orourke off at the gare. I helped him get his bags on the train, then I gave him a hand shake, and said it was good working with you. The train started to pull away, and I realized that I still had his backpack on. So, I was running along the side of the train, and opened the door and threw it to him. I swear it was just like the movies. Anyways, I got stuck by my self waiting for Elder Chapman (for like a half an hour). It was really weird to be by myself. The zone leaders eventually came and got me. We waited for like two hours or so, for Elder Chapman to come in.
Let me tell you a little about Elder Chapman. He is a fellow Arizonan, and his favorite place to eat is…. you guessed it Matta’s. We have a lot in common. He is a hard working Elder, but relaxed at the same time. We have gotten along really well these passed four days. It’s pretty sad, when missionaries find it fun to sing Saturdays warriors songs, while walking down the street. He kinda reminds me of the Jared, from the subway commercials, you will see what I mean when I send a picture of him. He is cool, his family lives in Mesa, pretty cool.
Well this week has been hard for me because I am the one that knows the area better, and the members, and the investigators. So, I am like the leader... in a way. I have not got us lost yet. I hope that it keeps going good. Oh and I have to speak French a lot more, because I know the people better. So, I have to ask them how they are doing, and keep the conversation going. Let’s just say I have received a lot of help from the Lord. This lady that we have been meeting with for the passed couple weeks, complimented how fast I am progressing. It was nice to get a compliment. Today we are just going to kinda hang out and shoot the breeze for p day and write some letters home. Well it’s good to hear all is going well back home.
Oh, I have a pretty cool story we where just walking to the church, and this man came up to us and ask if he could have a discussion with him. He was like the Muslim leader for Fribourg. We where like, yeah… we have some time. Then, he took us to his little church thing, and we had to take off our shoes, and we went and sat down at this table. Then, he busts out this Video camera and starts to film our conversation. I felt like I was on the religion channel... late night with Mohamed letterman ha ha. We had a pretty good conversation but we lost him when we started talking about prophets on the earth today. It was kind of interesting.
Oh and yesterday we had this man that totally gave us every word in the book (in English), and then he said, “quit trying to act important and go back home”. I just thought to myself, I’m not important one bit, but this message that I share, is salvation. It’s experiences like these that build my testimony stronger, because I know that nobody can ever shake my testimony. I know that we are here, doing the lords work, in the lords way. So anything they say against that, is not true. I am really learning to just love this work, there is no other chance or gift a 19 year old kid could have, that would make him stronger than this. Well, I better get going, I love you all, I hope you have the best week.
Love,
Elder Schmidt

09/01/08 New Companion!
Hey I am so sorry that I didn't get the chance to e mail, nothing went well as far as time goes, and I only had a half an hour until it closed last week. We came back from the Cailler Chocolate Factory late, but don't worry I wrote a hand letter to make up its already on its way. The x-ray I had to get was mandatory for staying in France, I am feeling fine!
Guess what! Transfer calls came today, I am staying in Fribourg for another transfer that makes three! But this time I will be working with an Elder Chapman... Elder O`Rourke is going to Lyon. Hopefully I get along with this Elder, I hope I do. It's kinda scary because now it's me that knows the area better so I have to be like the guide. I know I will get us lost but I can always just say I was just following the spirit ha ha! I hope I do good. Elder O'rouke has to pack today to head out on Wednesday!
That's cool to hear about the sealing thing it sounds like all went well... I love the temple!!!
This week I had the opportunity to do an exchange in Bienne with Elder Barber it was awesome we where doing personal studies and he accidentally blew out a snot bubble I couldn't stop laughing. I told him to wait until I got my camera, but he said hurry your making me laugh, so it popped due to his laughing. It was a good exchange because Elder Barber isn't extremely good at speaking so I felt like I could help, and together we could get what we wanted to say out.
What else has been going on. We have just been doing stuff like updating the area books and porting books this week so I dont have any cool stories.
We got this lady named Maria to commit to stop drinking and we also got this Arican family to church and they really liked it! So I hope they come again.
I finally got my hair cut today it doesn't look half bad. Hair cuts are so expensive, like 30 francs its crazy.
oh I have been sprayed by two cars driving passed when it has been raining and it is just like the movies where you are soaking wet after ha ha cést le vie ha ha or in other words thats life.
Things have been going good. The speak your language thing is really difficult.
Oh things that I want ... will someone sent me that cord to my camera I think the box is next to my night stand that its in. The peanut butter here is terrible I would enjoy that with a recipe book of quick meals, maybe some cd's with hyms on it sung by other people then motab. I need another journal mine is totally running out (pretty impressive huh) jk
This transfer flew by I swear, I cant believe it.
What else is good from letats uni ( the united states)?
I thought about sending you a package with stuff like chocolate and such in it but I don't want to spend the money. I'm a tight wad! Plus I don't have extra money to be spending. And I hope to have my scuba equipment when I get back instead of some Swiss Suivineers!!
Well I can't think of too much else to say. I know that I am here doing a good work and inviting people to draw nearer to their savior and if they will accept then we want to teach them more. Nothing makes your day better then when you see a prayer answered or have someone want to hear this great message.
Guess what! My buddy Matt Tally from down the street is going to Zurich Switzerland on his mission! It's a small world he is going to be right next door! I love to see how this work keeps growing. I have heared it from people we talk to they say the first time I heard about the Mormons it was about 20 years ago and now it is being preached on every continent in the world. This was quoted from a rendevous we had last night. its so obvious its growing because its true and all need to hear this message.
Well I bettter get going I love you all so very much, more then you all know. Elder Schmidt
